Art LovesHer: [DJ] DJ Lobotomy Copter

DJ Lobotomy Copter, who mixed it Live at the Funky Soul Dance Party and Art Exhibit, as the dj for the  Women in Hip Hop Set during Art LovHer’s 1st Annual Femcee Festival, in collaboration with Speaking in Rhythms, rocked the crowd. Internationally known lover of all things music, DJ LoboCop is a force of nature on the tables.

Harlem based “Tiny” terror aka Lobocop was born in Pittsburgh, raised in South Korea, The Philippines, and India, and came full circle by moving back to the US. With music in her blood, the classical world never quite fit her personality, and she fell into DJing. Raised by an Indian classical singer (mom), a civil engineer (dad) and trained formally as a pianist, she went off on her own journey and is very lucky to have the support of her family, friends, and an inspirational community of performers.

When spinning solo sets or working with other artists, she forgets boundaries and genres, and creates an emotion, a mood, and a memory, with a dangerous belief that music takes precedence over oxygen. A few career highlights follow: Lobocop has been blessed to work with many amazing collectives and musicians including the global We Take No Requests Crew, hip hop band In Case of Emergency , afro punk/folk artist Honeychild Coleman, and blues/electronica artist The Reaver . She was recently invited to perform as a band member by yoga music producers Nada Sadhana, indie-pop artist Ohene Cornelius, and is one half of the Drummer-DJ duo Shotgun Shine with heavy metal drummer Jason Madden . Her work has spanned multimedia including radio show appearances in the US and Europe, in-store events including Sephora in Times Square, Rock and Soul DJ and music equipment store in NYC as well as numerous activist events sponsored by Women’s Media Center/Refuse the Silence NYC and Retail Action Project. In 2010-2014, she held down New Year’s Eve featuring crowds with more than 2000 attendees at the AMC theater in Times Square for the city’s premier all-ages party (Joonbug Productions)
