Highlighting & preserving women in Art
“I don’t know why, I say hello, you say goodbye” -The Beatles
Last month was out final month at The Living Gallery. A bittersweet moment of sadness and excitement. Seeing how far we’ve come while reviewing how far we still have to go.
While it was hard to say goodbye to the place we’ve called home for the last 18 month in Brooklyn, we embrace it. Life is change. And not all change is bad.
At least, not all change has to be bad. Especially when it comes with opportunity for growth. In the case of Art LovHer, that means expanding our horizons. Expanding our reach in New York City. Getting out there and spreading this dream of equitable space in art for women to be represented, honored, and remembered.
Which is why we are delighted to announce this months open mic in Harlem. Art LovHer has been given the opportunity to curate an open mic in collaboration with ‘Getting Up’, a visual exhibition created by Maison d’Art and Black Capital Coalition celebrating and exploring the influence of graffiti art in culture. On display through August 27th at Maison d’Art in Harlem.
In honor of the exhibition, Art LovHer will be presenting R.A.P. [Rhythm & Poetry] in Wednesday August 20th from 6-9pm. We’ll be bringing you some amazing female poets and emcees emerging in NYC. You won’t want to miss this epic collaboration. Stay tuned for interviews with our featured artists and highlights from last month! See you soon art lovers!
